About NSDI
The Bhutan National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) was initiated as a joint initiative by the National Land Commission Secretariat (NLCS) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and aims to enhance the acquisition, management, and sharing of geospatial data throughout Bhutan.
The initiative began with the creation of 1:25,000 scale digital topographic maps for approximately 9,850 square kilometers in Bhutan’s southern region to support agriculture and infrastructure development. Building on this, the “Promotion of Utilization of Geospatial Information through the Development of NSDI” project was introduced to create a comprehensive geospatial framework that promotes data sharing and utilization across sectors.
The NSDI serves as a centralized platform for government agencies, academic institutions, consultants, and the public, offering easy access to accurate and reliable geospatial data. Its goal is to facilitate informed decision-making and promote sustainable development nationwide.
