Abstract: The dataset comprises trek routes in Bhutan, surveyed since 2017 using Handheld GPS devices with a 10-meter accuracy. These routes serve tourists, trekkers, hikers, and mountain bikers, facilitating outdoor exploration. The primary objective is to develop guide maps and apps for user convenience. While some routes have undergone feasibility studies, others require further ground validation. the dataset offers a resource for adventure enthusiasts exploring the diverse landscapes of Bhutan.
Purpose: The dataset of trek routes in Bhutan, surveyed with Handheld GPS devices since 2017, aims to facilitate outdoor activities such as trekking, hiking, and mountain biking, providing guidance for adventurers exploring the diverse landscapes of Bhutan.

Resource Lineage

Lineage scope:
Scope level: series
Source:
Source description: All data for the trek routes dataset were collected exclusively using Handheld GPS devices. In certain areas, particularly those densely covered by forest canopy, multipath errors may have occurred, potentially reducing the accuracy of the collected data. In addition for certain treks where there were negligible gaps in routes, topo base map and open data were used as supplements. Some of the trek routes along the popular trek routes were being validated on desktop by Department of Tourism in March-April 2024
Process step:
Process description: The raw data collected from Handheld GPS devices is processed using GIS software such as QGIS and ArcGIS. Topology validation is conducted during this processing stage to ensure the integrity of the dataset. In instances where minor data gaps are identified, external data sources such as topographic base maps or open base maps are referenced for supplementation. This process enhances the accuracy and completeness of the final dataset for trek routes in Bhutan.
