Abstract: This data contains the standardized village names in Bhutan achieved through a collaborative effort led by the Department of Local Governance and Disaster Management (DLGDM), with participation from key stakeholders including the National Land Commission Secretariat (NLCS), Department of Civil Registration and Census (DCRC), Department of Culture and Dzongkha Development (DoCDD), and the Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB).
Purpose: The standardized village names of Bhutan provides consistent naming for census records and civil registration. It supports geospatial accuracy for mapping, land management, and disaster planning while preserving cultural integrity through standardized Dzongkha spellings.

Process description: The village data was sourced from official census records, and the standardization process adhered to a standardization guideline developed by a technical working group. Stakeholder consultations involved local government (LG) representatives and community members, conducted through phone calls, video conferences, and face-to-face interviews during field verification. The geocoding of village names was facilitated by the NLCS, utilizing existing geographic names data of Bhutan to ensure accuracy and consistency. Field validation and desktop mapping using google earth and Qgis are also conducted.
