Abstract: This data contains the unstandardized Geographical names in Bhutan which was compiled by the Geoinformatics division with the help of Topographic division of NLCS through collaborations with LGs (Local governments) and local communities.

Purpose: The unstandardized feature names of Bhutan provides naming for census records and civil registration. It supports geospatial accuracy for mapping, land management, and disaster planning while preserving cultural integrity.

Source description: 25k base map, 50K base map and Google earth

Process step:

Process description: The data was primarily sourced from 50k and 25k base map from NLCS and Garmin GPS was used to geocode the Geographic name points through field works. Stakeholder consultations were also conducted and involved local government (LG) representatives and community members, conducted through phone calls and face-to-face interviews during field verification. The geocoding of village names was facilitated by the NLCS, utilizing existing geographic names data of Bhutan to ensure accuracy and consistency. Field validation and desktop mapping using google earth and Qgis were also conducted.
